About Nude Glamour Photography

There are few areas of photography that are more misunderstood than nude glamour photography. In many cases, people do not seem to understand what it is and label any nude photo as “glamour” when in fact they really should be labeling it as “fine art nude”, “body sculpture”, “artistic nude” and unfortunately, in far too many cases, simply “porn”.

Glamour photography has a long and respected tradition dating back to the early days of the motion picture industry. This was where glamour photography was really born. Movie stars, facing stiff competition from the plethora of new actresses vying for the silver screen, depended heavily on their glamour images to sell their movies and promote themselves. Marylyn Monroe, considered by many to be the “queen of glamour photos”, built her sex symbol image by posing for a long series of ever more revealing glamour shots. Her, and other famous actresses, found that tasteful and well photographed glamour images were one of the most sought after, and most valuable, ways of promoting themselves.

While the definition of nude glamour is hotly debated, with many labeling anything that is even suggestive as being porn, the accepted view by the photography industry is that glamour (nude or otherwise) is a style that is designed to enhance the beauty of the subject in a way that makes them more sensual. In many cases the “nude” designation is misleading as many glamour nude images, while nude, do not show any “naughty bits” in the image.

Real glamour photography is tasteful, sensual, artistically crafted and depicts the subject in the most positive light. It is not porn! Porn is designed for only one purpose, to evoke sexual stimulation in the viewer. It seldom has any other redeeming qualities. Glamour photography is more about the subject, creating an image that may be sensual but does not depict the subject in any negative way.

Real glamour photography is an art in itself. Many famous glamour photos have been displayed in art galleries, graced magazine covers and, of course, been the subject of many collectable movie posters.

Glamour photography is probably one of the most sought after and valued gifts that anyone can give their partner. The fact is that good glamour photography is extremely hard to find. Creating glamour images that are tasteful, finely crafted and sensual, without crossing the line into bad taste, takes not only a good understanding of photography, but also a complete understanding of the psychology of sensuality. In many cases, it is the expression alone that creates the illusion of sensuality.
